After looking at all the options for today's anniversary, there is clearly no contest here.
For those that have thought about cautiously venturing into 1979, here is the show to start with.

48 reviews can't be wrong.

Highlights are the Sugaree opener, the Music, and of course the epic Terrapin>Playin. Easily a serious competitor to the Dick's Picks of 12/26/79.

1979. We thought Carter was gonna be re-elected, and that NORML was gonna get that dank stuff legalized. We believed that disco would eventually die, but that the Grateful Dead would endure forever. Oh well. One outta 3 ain't so bad.

enjoy the time trip,
Dr. Flashback :-)

as good as the selections {79 & 69} are, and they are outstanding shows. i'm currently digging the 12/28/70el monte show. i love tunes like it hurts me too & smokestack. this show just somehow seems to have a lovely vibe thruout. as well as excellent sound quality to it.

excellent perscription dr. i may go there next!
thanks

12/28/79 is a very fine show indeed Dr Flashback and one that has been in my collection for some time. Let me also recommend that you go back (or flash back if you'd like) 1 more year to 1978 with one of the finest shows during the end run of keith & Donna. I give it a slight edge over 1979. Don't believe me? Listen to Supplication, Dire Wolf, Tennesseee Jed, Shakedown, Estimated>Eyes. Even Wharf Rat packs a punch here. Great sound to top it off.

I've decided to go with Cliff's suggestion and I am not disappointed. Quality of recording improves after the first tune or three and becomes quite listenable.

Thanks Cliff

P.S. I'll probably que up the Dr.'s recommendation for later.

1979 is ridiculously good and often overlooked. You got the tail end of the godcheaux era and the beginning of the brent decade. The early brent days are my favorite brent days. I've been loving the May 79 shows. peace

Just when I've been away long enough to think that there is actually life outside of this place, you go and bring up '79. Damn you and your evil temptations! You know I cant resist any of these. Hell, just the opening to TMNS is enough to make my mind boggle.

And, yes, Cliff, the '69 is also an outstanding selection. Why can't we have both?

"Why can't we have both?"

We must have both!

Streaming the post drums UJB from '79 now.

But to dis the International Speedway Show, in its albeit flawed glory, is, well, just not right...

With all due respect good dr, I could not disagree more!

You must have forgotten about Jer's leads and the high-energy playing from this over the top 1969 festival set, quintessential Dead here...

Happy Holidaze Doc,

This is a very nice show and one of the first ones I streamed in a long time. Very strong and soulful first set, looking forward to the second.

Keep em coming.
